Oak Cabinets… I know some people like them but if I I had them in my house I would be painting them like these!
Okay, let’s move on… No more Oak bashing here, I promise.
This past month I consulted with homeowners with Builder Grade Oak Cabinets to select a wall color that would enhance the wood. They were stumped as far as which direction to go in so they made the decision to call me for a Paint Consultation. They happened to be leaning toward yellow which (as seen in the example here) does not work. They were under the impression that because their white walls looked blah, they needed to warm things up a bit.
But yellow, dear readers, does not work because of the golden tones of the wood. Yet, as A Home Stager I see this color chosen quite often,
As you can see in this example above, the beige floor has pink undertones, making the yellow look worse. This floor tile is also common in kitchens like this. There must of been a really BIG sale back in the 90’s when this stuff was popular!
I love this example above with the blue gray walls don’t you? I never found the exact source but an almost perfect match for one of the choices below… Benjamin Moore’s Pleasant Valley 696.
This is a much better choice and warms up this kitchen more than yellow ever would.
If you have Amber or Honey toned cabinets, consider neutrals such as soft blue-grays, greens and a neutral beiges. These will all complement the wood and instantly update your kitchen.
